PRICING TRANSPARENCY

CMS Hospital Pricing Transparency Rule

On January 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), requires hospitals to be in compliance with the hospital price transparency requirements set forth in the CY 2020 Hospital Outpatient PPS Policy Changes and Payment Rates and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System Policy Changes and Payment Rates: Price Transparency Requirements for Hospitals to Make Standard Charges Public (CMS-1717-F2),1 herein referred to as the “Hospital Price Transparency Final Rule”.

This final rule establishes requirements for hospitals operating in the United States to establish, update, and make public a list of their standard charges for the items and services that they provide. These actions are necessary to promote price transparency in health care and public access to hospital standard charges. By disclosing hospital standard charges, CMS believes the public (including patients, employers, clinicians, and other third parties) will have the information necessary to make more informed decisions about their care.

Brunswick Hospital supports Healthcare Cost Transparency to help consumers make informed decisions about their healthcare. As part of this effort, Brunswick Hospital will annually publish hospital Chargemaster information for commonly used services.

Brunswick Hospital is an Article 31 hospital, and our reimbursement is generally determined by the insurance-negotiated per diem rate. Per diem payment for in-patient services provides a fixed amount for a patient day in the hospital, regardless of a hospital’s charges or costs incurred for caring for that patient.

Charges contained within the Chargemaster list include an array of items such as room and board, charges for a hospital stay, and other items and services that you might receive while you are at the hospital. Charges can be more relevant for insurers, patients who do not have insurance coverage, or insured patients whose benefits have been exhausted. For patients with insurance, you may contact your insurance company to determine your specific benefits based upon your insurance policy. If you do not have insurance, we are still here to help.

Please note that the information provided in the file below, may not accurately reflect what any given individual is likely to pay for a particular service as this will be dependent upon insurance coverage and terms. You can always give us a call if you have questions about your out-of-pocket costs, a bill that you have received, or how to get financial help.
